Apple is blocking the latest NFT Coinbase Wallet update in the app store
Back in December 2021, Coinbase announced that they were going to add support for NFTs in their wallet. Today Apple requires gas on NFT-transfers to be paid in Apple’s In-app purchasing system. This way Apple can earn a 30% fee on the gas fees paid for NFT- transfers in the Coinbase Wallet. The problem is that Apple's system doesn’t support crypto payments, meaning if you have some NFTs and some ether in your wallet, that won’t be enough to transfer them on your mobile device... This has resulted in Coinbase Wallet being blocked from releasing the latest app update, as they haven’t really come to terms with Apple's proposition. Read more here.
3000+ cryptocurrencies declared “dead” since 2021
CoinGecko has declared 3322 cryptocurrencies as “dead” in their internal system. “Dead” effectively means the project asking to be deactivated. This can be due the project not being active anymore or simply the token liquidity being insufficient. In 2021 we saw a total of over 8000 coins listed, of which around 40% are now “dead”. In CoinGecko’s article, they point towards the “meme coin season” as possibly being a big reason for the number of dead coins. Around 951 coins have been declared “dead” during 2022. Read more here.
