Congo combats tourism collapse by mining Bitcoin
The Virunga National Park in Congo is home to some of the world's last mountain gorillas. Due to several kidnappings by rebels and ebola ravaging the area followed by Covid-19, the tourism of the park has almost ceased to exist. To combat the existing problems and save the endangered mountain gorilla species, the park has initiated various NFT projects. The latest initiative in line has been to utilise the Virunga River Delta to power the mining of Bitcoin equipment. It is an innovative idea, making valuable use of its immense national resources. The project is looking to contribute to the preservation of the mountain gorillas and allow the park to compensate for some of its lost revenue.
